You know those ads on the sidebar of Facebook claiming to offer a 'free MacBook Air' if you sign on to enough deals with their advertising partners (apparently the minimum is six to claim your award)? Has anyone ever tried it? Does it work? Do you actually get a free laptop with minimal hassle and minimal damage to your wallet? I'll admit I'm tempted, but my momma raised me right; them offers sound like a scam.
Addition after original post: I just remembered why I prefer Macs to PCs - adware, spyware, malware, everything-annoying-ware...most of it's written for PCs. Maybe I will try out that offer...

Even if you have to pay full price for it, I'd get a Mac if I were you. :)
Oh, no worries, that's definitely what I want. And the free laptop adds are usually for Macs, at least on Facebook - that's why they've been so tempting!
No! NO! No! Dont do this. No!
First, you have to particpate in a set number of deals from their advertisers- almost all which cost some amount of money up front. Secondly, you then have to complete the specificed amou nt of time with the advertiser- for example, 6 months of receiving netflix. Heck you can save up enough money in 6 months to buy a darn computer. And if you terminated some fo the deals early you will be charged a termination fee (b/c you are required to provide your credit card up front).
I have seen many of these companies prosecuted by the FTC.
