chesapeake wine co.

Tuesday evening I went with two friends, an old and a new, to Chesapeake Wine Company for their weeknight wine tasting. If you haven't been I highly recommend it.

First of all, the wine was incredible. I guess I'm not much of a judge because I'm pretty new to the world of wine tasting, but I went with a good friend whose husband is a wine fanatic and raves about the place. They serve 8 different kinds of wine - we had two sparkling wines, two whites, and four different reds - along with bread, cheese, olives and sausages.

Second of all, when I told the owner I couldn't eat the bread and was looking to buy some chips instead, he took me to his shelf of gourmet snacks and - voilá! - produced a box of gluten-free crackers that he had his staff serve my friends and I gratis, in place of the bread we otherwise would have eaten. I was impressed. Very impressed. We decided that they tasted like unsweetened corn puffs, but they did the trick and went wonderfully with the tapenade. He also served me a cheese-free plate, in addition to the regular plate my friends had. Again, very impressed.

My favorite wine of the night was a Greek wine called Malagouisia, produced in 2006 by
Gerovassiliou. It was light but very interesting (like I said, I'm new at this whole wine tasting, so I'm not going to pretend I tasted the notes of elderflower, pine cone and lemon meringue referenced here). If you're looking for a good wine with ham or lamb this weekend, try it out.

Long story short, I'll be returning in the near future. Such excellent service, wine, and hospitality deserves another visit.

Hello,

The Malagouisia from Gerovassiliou is indeed an excellent wine! If you like Greek wine, how about some Greek food to go along with it? Perhaps my Greek food blog will be of some interest to you, see: Greek Food

Be Well,

Sam,

I had it again this weekend with an Italian lamb dish - it was absolutely delish.

Your blog looks interesting. Not everything is gluten- or dairy-free (which I have to eat), but the stuffed peppers looked incredible!

Thanks for the link!
